Simandl, 30 Etudes for Double Bass (Fisher)
Franz Simandl (1840-1912) was a renowned double bassist and music teacher. He is most famous for his book "New Method for the Double Bass." Simandl received education at the Prague Conservatory under the guidance of Josef Hrabe. After his studies, he became the principal bassist in the Vienna Court Opera Orchestra. His collection of 30 Etudes covers various difficulty levels, from basic to complex. It is considered one of the most significant pieces for the double bassist. They cover all aspects of technique, including attack, bowing, mordents, trills, intonation, dexterity, legato/marcato, leaps, syncopation, and cantilena playing. These etudes are arranged in progressive order and are best practised slowly initially.
