    Teka Violin Chin Rest- Plastic

The Teka Violin Chin Rest is a best seller and is famous for its medium height and comfortable shape. Made of classic plastic, the Teka violin chinrest is a popular side-mounted chinrest available in several sizes. It has a fairly large and moderately high cup.

    Specifications:

    • Plastic chinrest
    • Maximum height over instrument edge, (4/4) 25mm
    • Model Teka
    • GEWA brand.
    • Made in Germany

    Instrument Violin 4/4 – 3/4, 1/2, 1/4:

    • 4/4-3/4 - Barrel length 27 mm
    • 1/2 - Barrel length 23 mm
    • 1/4 - Barrel length 21 mm

Important points to remember regarding your chinrest include:

    • Ensure an experienced repairer/teacher/player helps fit your chinrest
    • If your instrument is ‘buzzing’, it could be that the chinrest is too loose and is rattling on the tailpiece
    • Ensure your tailpiece is not too tight, as it may impact your instrument or restrict the resonance of your instrument
    • Only use equipment specifically designed to adjust your chinrest. Other implements may damage the varnish of the instrument.

In his world-renowned book, The Violin Lesson, Simon Flesch concludes that the chinrest should be called the ‘jawbone rest’ as that is a more accurate description of the contact point on the rest. It is also important to realize that there should be no gap between the instrument and the neck of the player. The tension caused by this incorrect posture would undoubtedly result in overall discomfort.

    To install at home:

    • Loosen up the brackets and rest the chinrest to the left of the tailpiece, as seen in the product picture.
    • Following this, insert the tip of the chinrest tool into one of the little holes on the bracket, and turn to tighten.
    • Repeat with the other bracket.
