Rainer W. Leonhardt is a fourth-generation German Master Violin Maker based in Mittenwald, Bavaria, one of the world's most respected centres of violin making. A graduate of the prestigious Mittenwald Violin Making School, he earned his Master qualification in 1990 and has led the Leonhardt Workshop since 1997. The family workshop, originally founded in 1926, celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026 while continuing a violin-making tradition rooted in more than 350 years of Mittenwald craftsmanship. In addition to producing fine violins, violas, and cellos, Leonhardt has served as Director of the renowned Mittenwald Museum of Violin Making. His instruments are admired worldwide for their meticulous craftsmanship, carefully selected European tonewoods, and refined tonal character.
