Bruch, Kol Nidrei Op.47 for Cello (IMC)

Composed in 1880 for cello and orchestra, the work draws on two Jewish melodies, beginning with the traditional Kol Nidre melody associated with the evening service of Yom Kippur. The solo cello takes on an intensely vocal, cantorial character, demanding sustained tone, expressive phrasing and sensitive control of dynamics.
