This work for violin and piano consists of three movements and was written by Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky between March and May of 1878. Showing the characteristics of Tchaikovsky's style, it has beautiful melodies as its foundation. The melodies show the influence of Russian folk music. The solo part illustrates the mastery for violin writing that Tchaikovsky had with its diversity of timbres and effects. The movements are Meditation (in D minor) Scherzo (C minor) Melodie (E-Flat Major)- Tchaikovksy also considered Melodie to be a "Song without words"
