Chanson was composed originally in this form for violin and piano but was also orchestrated by the composer. It was first published in 1899, however it is thought to have been written earlier in 1889 or 1890. Chanson de matin is a companion piece to Sir Elgar's work Chanson de Nuit. It is a very popular composition due to its fresh melodic appeal.
