Mario Gadda (1931-2008) was born in 1931 in Mantua, Italy. He began training with his father Gaetano Gadda as a luthier at the age of 16. Most of his instruments were inspired by Stefano Scarampella (his father’s teacher) and Tommaso Balestrieri which carries out the Mantuan tradition of making violins.

There were more than 500 instruments created by Gadda in his lifetime. He was selling instruments across Europe, America, and Asia, making him one of the famous violin makers around the world. His work was exhibited all over the world in many competitions. Claudio Testoni is the only student Gadda had in his lifetime.
