Bach Violin Concerto in A min (Breitkopf & Härtel)
Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, Urtext edited by Klaus Hofmann. This stapled orchestra part of a solo concerto in Baroque style leaves several questions unanswered. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel, duration 16', consisting of 8 pages.
It's clear that when an editorial formula proves to be as compelling as the E-major Concerto BWV 1042, it will undoubtedly be used again. Klaus Hofmann's new Urtext edition of the A-minor Concerto follows this trend. However, Bach's manuscript leaves several questions unanswered.
The solo part contains inconsistent slurring, which goes against Bach's expectation of performer creativity. The expertise of Sigiswald Kuijken, a Baroque specialist, makes his interpretative suggestions especially valuable.
The revised edition for violin and keyboard instruments (with continuo ad lib) consists of three violin parts (the first without markings, the second with Sigiswald Kuijken's annotations and comments, and the third as a facsimile). This offers a reliable basis for personal interpretation in line with historically informed performance practice. The keyboard arrangement by Siegfried Petrenz is lucid and easy to play. Additionally, a cello part has been included for chamber music performances.
