Throughout his career, he composed over a hundred pieces, including some for solo piano.

Justus Johann Friedrich Dotzauer (1783-1860) was a famous cellist who played in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the orchestra of the Dresden Staatskappelle. He was part of the premieres of Wagner's operas Rienzi and The Flying Dutchman. Dotzauer's Violoncellschule (Cello School) and 113 Exercises are foundational pieces of educational cello literature. Carl Flesch, a Hungarian violinist, was a celebrated soloist, chamber music performer, and teacher. He taught many famous performers and authored instructional books, and his Scale System for the violin is still in use. He owned the Brancaccio Stradivarius but sold it in 1928. Flesch lived in London during the 1930s and was later arrested by the Gestapo. He died in Switzerland in 1944.
