    Léon Bernardel 1899 Violin

    Léon Bernardel was born in 1853 in Paris, He was a third-generation violin maker. He was the son of Ernest Bernardel, nephew of Gustave Bernardel, and grandson of Auguste Bernardel. 

    He studied with Derazey and went on to work for Gand-Bernadel Freres.  He opened his own workshop in 1898 and worked with his son (also Léon). Bernardel went on to become one of the directors of the Couesnon company which was a large French exporter of musical instruments.
