Charles Enel Violin made in Paris, France in about 1927

A beautiful example of Enel's violins - very good condition - huge sound! Charles Enel was born in Mirecourt (Vosges) France, on July 14, 1890. His parents were Jules Enel and Louise Vigneron who came from the family of Arthur Vigneron a famous bow maker. Since violin making runs in his blood, he started working in Grillon, Gustave Bazin’s workshops, and the famous luthier Léon Mougenot. Then he moved to Paris and worked in Auguste Deroux’s workshop.

In 1947, Charles Enel became the Group of Violin and Art Bow Makers of France’s (GLAAF) vice president. He is also named as the Expert to the Commercial Court of the Seine in 1948 in consideration of his specialty in stringed instruments. He created 30 cellos, 220 violins, and some violas. In 1949 he became the founding member of what is considered the elite world of violin makers, the International Society of Violin and Bow Makers (EILA). In 1954, five years later, Charles Enel died in Saint-Brieuc at the age of 64.
