    Louis Noebe Cello 1914

Louis Noebe was a German cellist born to the Güstrow cathedral organist Carl Noebe. He studied cello playing and counterpoint at the Leipzig Conservatory and played as a cellist in the Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Weimar Court Orchestra. Noebe was a solo cellist who performed in Bad Homburg, and Frankfurt am Main and gave several concerts with Hans von Bülow. Later, he became a cello teacher at the Raff Conservatory.

He resigned from his solo cellist position 1876 to establish a workshop for creating violins, violas, and cellos. He improved violin making and trademarked System Noebe, with an elliptical shape and a thicker bottom at the voice's location. This increased the vibrations of the cello, offering more excellent resistance to the voice. However, the floor was not vibrated enough, resulting in a solid but ignoble sound. Willibald Leo von Lütgendorff-Leinburg stated that the workshop had a good reputation, but some inventions, such as an induction beam, did not succeed in the long run. Today, the System Noebe is regarded as primarily a modified bass bar.

Louis Noebe was a German violin maker whose clients included famous musicians such as Pablo de Sarasate, August Wilhelmj, and Leopold Auer. He innovated in piano construction and developed a four-part coupling pedal in 1893. Noebe's former residence, Kaiser-Friedrich-Promenade No. 45 in Bad Homburg, is a listed building that he rented out to spa guests as a lodger. The Bad Homburg Municipal Historical Museum bought a violin by Louis Noebe for its 100th anniversary in 2016.
