Jenkinson, Ezra

Ezra Jenkinson (1872–1947) was an English violinist and composer. The Elves' Dance, his best-known composition, uses spiccato and is a showpiece for advanced violin beginners. Jenkinson was born in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. According to English novelist and artist William Holt, a local patron gave Jenkinson a stipend to study music at Leipzig, Germany, in his childhood. After selling the rights to his works, he returned to his hometown to live alone and shun the public after seven years. He died at Todmorden, his hometown.
