    American Violin - Koch

This American violin has a label stating it is a copy of Andreas Amati by Ands Nicholas Koch. Koch was known as a German Violin Maker in the 19th Century.

    Andrea Amati

Andrea Amati is the earliest of the great Cremonese luthiers. He was the grandfather of Nicolo Amati, Antonio Stradivari’s mentor. Amati has achieved the most elegant form of violin which set the standard of superb craftsmanship. This had set the foundation for his followers who included two of his sons and his distinguished grandson Nicolò, as well as Antonio Stradivari, who showed this particular characteristic in their works.

Roger Hargrave stated in his biography that Amati is one of the top candidates scholars have advanced for the inventor of the violin. The two others were Fussen who born in Germany and Gasparo' da Salo from Brescia.
