Tailpieces are crucial for violas. That is why we offer tailpieces made of ebony and rosewood to create different sounds. Dense woods warm up and deepen the sound, while lighter woods brighten it. The tailpiece material plays a significant role in enhancing or altering the sound.
A too-light tailpiece can affect a viola’s sound, leading to wolf tones and resonance interference. Choosing a suitable weight tailpiece can enhance sound quality by adding warmth and body and reducing wolf tones.
Tailpieces have a direct impact on the strings of a musical instrument. High-quality instruments take special care of the afterlength, the part of the string between the bridge and the tailpiece. The tailpiece has fine tuners that adjust the string’s pitch at a micro level, particularly for metal core strings and solid steel E-strings.
