Guidelines to Consider when Purchasing a Viola
When buying a viola, particularly for novices, the choices can be extensive and somewhat daunting. Identifying a high-quality viola among the multitude of brands can be challenging. Violas priced around $400 are generally deemed suitable for students. Certain brands, such as the Arco viola from Animato Strings, are recognized for their consistent quality and sound, making them a dependable option for beginners.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF SOUND QUALITY
The sound quality of a viola is crucial. An ideal beginner's viola should emit a pleasing, not a metallic tone. A good sounding viola can significantly improve the learning process. The Arco viola is commended for its rich tone and overall excellence, which can aid students in avoiding frustration while they learn. The professional setup and materials of the viola contribute to its sound, thus making it necessary to invest in a quality instrument like the Arco viola.
CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT FEEL AND COMFORT
The weight and feel of the viola are also significant factors. A viola should be comfortable and not overly heavy, ensuring easy playability. The Arco viola, akin to more costly violas, is lightweight. It's essential to evaluate how the viola feels against the chin and shoulder and possibly select a different chin rest and an appropriate shoulder rest if needed. A comfortable viola can substantially impact a player's ability to practice and progress.
WARNINGS FOR ONLINE PURCHASES
Exercising caution is recommended when purchasing a viola online from platforms like eBay. Many violas may arrive in parts, necessitating the buyer to arrange and pay for a professional setup, which is generally not cost-effective. (You'll likely save money by initially going to a specialist.) Also, beginners should consider the quality of the bow as it's vital for producing an appealing sound.
FINAL WORDS ON VIOLA INVESTMENT
In conclusion, first-time buyers should wisely invest in their initial viola. While choosing the least expensive option may be tempting, spending more at a specialist store can result in a much-improved learning experience. A high-quality viola sounds better and helps beginners enhance their skills without undue discomfort. The Arco viola outfit, priced around $370, offers a fair balance of quality and affordability. Making informed decisions or seeking appropriate guidance when buying a viola is crucial to ensure a positive beginning in learning this magnificent instrument.
