Haydn, Concerto No. 1 in C for violin and orchestra (piano). (Peters)
Haydn, Concerto No. 1 in C major for violin and orchestra (piano reduction). Edition Peters
Edited and supplied with cadenzas by Carl Flesch
Haydn wrote four violin concertos one of which has been lost. Haydn's violin concertos are noted for their ample use of the higher register of the instrument, double stops, runs of dotted notes and ornamentation. Their complexity was designed to display the virtuosity of Luigi Tomasini, the principal violinist in Haydn's orchestra at Esterháza.
