

Johann Strauß (Sohn) (1825 – 1899) An der schönen blauen Donau Beautiful blue Danube for String Quartet arranged for string quartet by Ernst-Thilo Kalke Johann Strauss' enormously popular Blue Danube Waltz. Johann Strauss followed a music career against his father's wished. In 1844, he founded an orchestra that had immediate success and came to rival his father's orchestra. After Johann senior died, his son combined the two orchestras. He composed more than 400 waltzes and this is arguably the most famous of these.
Mazas, a renowned composer, is known for his effective etudes and chamber ensemble works. This duet for two violins, dating back to the early 19th century, showcases the late Classical and early Romantic styles. The music is characterized by sharp rhythms and lyrical melodies, making it an excellent choice for a String Orchestra at level 3.5.
