Bech Magnetic Mute for Violin/Viola
The Bech Magnetic Violin mute works similarly to the standard Tourte mute except when not used.
A magnet holds the mute firmly to a plastic clip on the violin tailpiece so it is not only kept out of the way when not in use but readily available if needed. The magnet helps the mute find its resting place against the tailpiece. It is also responsible for preventing it from rattling when playing while the mute is not engaged.
The acoustic qualities of mute materials allow the instrument's voice to resonate even while muted. Its hi-tech rubber is engineered for durability and flexibility, guaranteeing a good fit on the bridge. Its unique design prevents string abrasion or damage to your instrument.
This mute is very effective but is not recommended for use on tailpieces with more than one fine tuner, as the magnetic grip will be much reduced. It can be used on tailpieces with integrated tuners such as Wittner, although the mute may slightly impede tuning when held by the magnet.
It consists of 2 parts: The mute with a metal centrepiece and the magnet clipped to the tailpiece.
