Rabbath, Nouvelle Technique for Double Bass, Vol. 1
François Rabbath's (b.1931) three-volume series, New Technique of the Double Bass, is a valuable resource for double bass performers, as few study books are available for this instrument. Rabbath, born in Syria, moved to Paris in 1955 to continue his studies on the double bass. He began composing for the instrument and transcribing works of other composers for it as well. The first volume of New Technique of the Double Bass is an essential contribution to the field of double bass pedagogy. It covers physical approaches to the instrument, bowing, rhythms, and intervals and includes exercises and studies. Rabbath compiled this technical study book with vast knowledge and experience as a virtuoso double bass player who frequently performs solo. Given his prominence as a double bassist, Rabbath's New Technique of the Double Bass, accompanied by a CD, is an essential accompaniment to all double bass studies.
