Minsky, Pop goes the Cello

Pop Goes the Cello is a dynamic set of ten original pieces suitable for intermediate players, featuring styles such as pop, rock, and Latin. These characterful vignettes are well suited to concert performance as encores or as a suite, while allowing cellists to tackle a variety of technical and stylistic challenges.

This volume's musical text and articulation are based on the 1806 first edition of Janet et Cotelle of Paris. We've modernized fingerings and bowings to reflect cello playing today. The new edition is free from many elements added by various editors over the last 200 years, restores the etudes' original order, and includes the 2nd cello in a separate score. A brochure with comments on the etudes and references to their usage in standard cello literature, similar to the popular Popper Etudes, is also included.

The Toccata capricciosa op. 36 is a solo instrument work by Miklós Rózsa. It is a radical departure from his monumental film scores, with a maximum scoring reduction to bring back pure music. The piece was dedicated to Gregor Piatigorsky, follows an ABA' form, and contrasts virtuosic and furioso outbursts with a lyrical and almost meditative section. The tonal centre of the piece remains recognizable as D minor.

New School of Cello Studies Book 2 is a book of exercises chosen to develop stylistic awareness and technical control. The book is suitable for lower elementary grades and has been edited and fingered by Percy Such.
