Alban Berg, Concert for Violin and Orchestra (Henle) MK
Editor: Michael Kube
Piano reduction: Jan Philip Schulze
Fing. vn: Frank Peter Zimmermann
Urtext Edition, Piano reduction, paperbound with marked and unmarked string parts, orchestral material available from Breitkopf & Härtel
In 1935, Alban Berg began sketching his Violin Concerto. However, the genesis of the piece was marred by tragedy when Manon Gropius, the daughter of Walter Gropius and Alma Mahler - friends of Berg's - passed away from polio. He dedicated the concerto "To the Memory of an Angel" to her memory. Unfortunately, Berg passed away before he could see his work in print or on stage. This edition of the concerto, which includes the violin part and piano reduction, is based on the score edited by Michael Kube. Breitkopf & Härtel are publishing the orchestral parts and pocket score simultaneously. The violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann has contributed fingerings and bowings to the violin part. This edition is available worldwide.
