The suite is dedicated to the memory of Andrea Messenger OAM, a beloved colleague and friend, and to the Western Suburbs String Orchestra community, whose commitment to music education has inspired countless young musicians.
The Cliffs of Moher, rising about 200 meters above the Atlantic on Ireland's west coast, are home to many birds and sea life, such as grey seals and dolphins. In this work, I aimed to capture the feeling of sea spray, the beauty of green pastures, and the vibrant atmosphere of nearby towns, using musical textures such as pizzicato, sustained notes, bass melodies, and a reflective violin solo.
Embark on a musical journey for young string players with a delightful composition specially crafted for beginning orchestras. This engaging piece introduces students to ensemble playing while promoting joy and a sense of accomplishment. With catchy melodies and expressive dynamics, it showcases the potential of aspiring musicians.

For String Orchestra Grade 2.5
This enchanting tone poem creates a peaceful atmosphere with its soft melodies and forest whispers. The sweeping beauty of the noble theme leads to a faster section with contrasting themes and variations. The string section uses various techniques to create a dynamic sound, featuring a brief solo quartet. The piece ends with a reference to the opening melody and the sound of a waterfall. For String Orchestra Grade 3.5
A funky rooster tune with staccato bowing and a catchy melody is featured in this rondo-style piece. The "cock-a-doodle-do" rhythm is present throughout, and the descending bass line adds to the rag-tune feel. Perfect for an early morning rehearsal!
For String Orchestra Grade 2
This is an excellent intro to Early Music. Arbeau's second piece was later used in "Capriol Suite" by Peter Warlock. To add authenticity, improvise and add bass drum or tambour parts.
