The suite is dedicated to the memory of Andrea Messenger OAM, a beloved colleague and friend, and to the Western Suburbs String Orchestra community, whose commitment to music education has inspired countless young musicians.
The Iching, a series of texts created by Emperor Zhou in the 9th century BC China, helps interpret thoughts and dreams. Its orchestral representation features an energetic section that paints a vibrant life in ancient China and concludes with thrilling cascades of repeated sixteenth notes.
Australian summer holidays are magical! "Catamarans" captures the graceful movement of sailing vessels with wistful melodies. "Beach Party" is lively, depicting fun in the sand with driving quavers and unique textures. Both pieces feature harmonics and shifting in the first violins.

Pachelbel's most famous work is "Canon in D," but he also composed many other pieces, including concerti, keyboard suites, and organ compositions. The Sarabande features a circle of fifths bass with varied sections. Bohm's Rigaudon is a lively Baroque dance.

Citadels, or walled fortresses, were built for centuries to defend civilizations from invaders. This music explores the imagery of a strong, passionate, and fiercely protective community. The middle section creates an atmosphere of a still yet edgy night. The main theme eventually fades away as the invaders recede.
For String Orchestra Grade 2.5
This music piece is based on an old English hymn that depicts a journey to hope, titled To the Palace of Light. It has a solemn beginning, turbulent middle, and faster, jig-like ending. Elements of the hymn can be heard throughout, making it a great choice to end a concert or festival.

Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus and Alleluia from "Exultate Jubilate" are two of his most cherished liturgical compositions. All the difficult melismas have been adapted without losing the original excitement.

Ignaz Joseph Pleyel was a renowned musician and entrepreneur who established a famous publishing house in Paris. This work, originally for two violins, embodies a late classical style with contrasting themes and a brighter ending. Your orchestra will enjoy this effective arrangement.
Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco and Antonio Vivaldi lived during the same era. Dall'Abaco's piece features an opening Prelude and a Ciaconna that includes variations on a fixed bass. This Baroque piece introduces players to various musical textures.
