The suite is dedicated to the memory of Andrea Messenger OAM, a beloved colleague and friend, and to the Western Suburbs String Orchestra community, whose commitment to music education has inspired countless young musicians.
The Wars of the Roses was a conflict between Lancaster and York from 1455 to 1487. Composer Walter Frye wrote music during this time, including "Alas, Alas, Alas is my Chief Song," which inspired this Fantasia. The piece depicts the storms of battle and blends antiquity with contemporary style.

The Gloria from the Latin Mass is a joyful and energetic piece for orchestra and two-part choir, inspired by the homage to God. It is easy to play, with alternative instruments covering several parts. Male voices can sing the two vocal parts an octave lower. Each orchestra section is featured in the interludes, and the piece concludes with a lively flourish.

We all love our pets, and each day brings new adventures! “Presto Puppies” features rising scale patterns and surprising dissonances, while “Cantabile Kitties” captures the subdued essence of our feline friends with major seventh intervals that evoke a kitten yawning. “Con Brio Birdies” portrays birds’ chatter through repeated quavers and gentle dissonances. The suite also showcases various techniques, including harmonics and different pizzicato styles.
Lux Angelis is an advanced string orchestra piece with optional grade 1 and 2 strings, keyboard, and percussion. It represents light pervading the universe through harmonics and suspended chords. The seventh interval symbolizes the seven days of creation, while the two sections portray the challenges of dark forces. The piece ends with a chorus of angels bathed in light, symbolizing light's resilience.
A thrilling adventure with spies, detectives, and super sleuths trying to stop world domination. The catchy tune and unique harmonies will delight students. The piece features pizzicato, harmonics, and string crossing. Structured in rondo form, each section of the orchestra makes an appearance.

The Iching, a series of texts created by Emperor Zhou in the 9th century BC China, helps interpret thoughts and dreams. Its orchestral representation features an energetic section that paints a vibrant life in ancient China and concludes with thrilling cascades of repeated sixteenth notes.
