Albeniz's piece was originally written for piano, showcasing Spanish passion and brilliance. It alludes to a legend from Asturias, with Moroccan influences. The use of string techniques adds intensity to this haunting work.

It's graded at level 3.5 for string orchestra.

This is an excellent intro to Early Music. Arbeau's second piece was later used in "Capriol Suite" by Peter Warlock. To add authenticity, improvise and add bass drum or tambour parts.

Haydn's second symphony in a minor key is a classic Sturm und Drang piece with strong emotional changes. It's great for expanding classical repertoire and practising playing techniques in G minor.

This arrangement of a popular spiritual is perfect for younger players. The melody is shared, making it easy for even the least experienced to participate. Clashing notes represent the train's whistle, while easily managed syncopated notes add spice and energy.

Introduce your students to Russian classical music with "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Mussorgsky. "Promenade" links various pieces, while "Danse Caracteristique" features harmonics, syncopated accompaniments, and chromatic scales.

Gobi Desert warriors, led by Genghis Khan, ride to China. The music's eighth notes, dissonant chords, and pounding melody vividly portray their might in battle. A calm pentatonic section shows them resting at night before moving mercilessly to the next fight.
