Masque of Arne for String Orchestra by Keith Sharp
The Masque of Arne is a musical piece with a quasi-renaissance style featuring two different dance types. The piece's first section is lively and upbeat, emphasising the use of soft marcato strokes and awareness of the "space between the notes" to avoid rushing. The second section is more ambient and tonal, focusing on resonance, chordal balance, and sustainment. The two dances can be performed separately or in succession, with a return to the first dance using da Capo to end the performance.
Keith Sharp obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in 1984 and subsequently started working as a string educator in the Gap region of Brisbane, Australia, where he continues to teach.
