Gaetano Pareschi (1900-1987)
The prolific output of award-winning Italian luthier Gaetano Pareschi spanned 50 years, from 1924-1974. A practitioner of the Ferrarese violinmaking style, he favoured a half-external form, wide purfling and deep-cut grooves encircling the scroll. Once an orchestral musician, Pareschi's appreciation for orchestral string instruments was realised in the production of approximately 200 violins, 20 violas and cellos, and three double bases. The instruments dating from the 1930s-1960s are especially valued for their high level of craftsmanship, and we are pleased to present you with one of his violins. He started it in 1947 and finished it in1948. It features his distinctive red-brown varnish, with flecks of golden throughout. The instrument underwent restorations in the Animato workshop.
