Sharp, Bilge Rat Blues For String Orchestra
Chromatic glissandi, walking bass, and piano accompany a slow blues melody played by violins. This tune is perfect for encouraging vibrato and sounds great when played in the third position, but it can also be played in the first. The third violin/viola part is simple enough for elementary instrumentalists to manage, while cellists can enjoy their chromatic pizzicato and play the rich, smooth melody. The piano line is an essential component and should not be omitted. This is an original "concert novelty" that provides excellent programming interest.
